Submission of Chapters
Formats
File Format. We will need to submit to Oxford one large
MSWord document. Thus, receiving your document in Word format would be
preferred, or we can accept WordPerfect format or Rich Text Files (RTF).
If you have trouble creating one of these formats, please contact
John.
Formatting the manuscript. If you can assist by adhering to
the following common format, we will decrease the chance of error as we
merge and submit the manuscript:
-
Please use Times Roman 12 point font
-
Set margins to 1" on all sides
-
Double space the entire manuscript.
-
Use indents at the beginning of paragraphs, and do not use extra
space between paragraphs
-
Use a tab to indent the paragraphs, not several spaces.
-
Do not use justification on the right margins (sometimes called full
justification); please use left justification
-
Turn off the hyphenation feature of your word processor
-
Use headline style capitalization, not all caps for section headings
-
Place notes at the end of the chapter rather than on the bottom of the
page
-
Place tables and figures at the end of the manuscript
-
Place each table or figure on its own separate page
-
Use tabs (not spaces) for setting up tables
Length. The average chapter should be roughly 9000 words
including references, or about 30-40 double-spaced manuscript pages. If
you feel you need to deviate from that number, please contact us so we
might accurately estimate the size of the final volume.
Figures and Images. We have negotiated for the inclusion of
color and halftone images in addition to the customary linecut figures.
If you anticipate using color or halftone images in your chapter, please
contact
John
so that we might have an idea of how many color images to anticipate.
Permissions
You will need to obtain permissions for requisite tables, figures, or
text, if any of these have appeared in other published sources.
Most publishers have their own permissions forms, many of which can be
submitted directly over the web. Using a publisher's own forms expedites
the process. Please be sure to look into this possibility when securing
your permissions. If needed, forms for assisting in obtaining permission are available for
download, but the publishers' forms
are preferable. Please note that if
you do not have any material in need of permissions, we need an explicit
statement to that effect from the first author of each chapter. |
